Music of a culture (Galicia & Asturias) [Mus1X Assignment 1 blog]:

Here (below) are the three pages for Assignment 1 Music 1X  relating to the Music of a Culture (Galicia & Asturias) topic.

As you can see there are lots of links built in to the text here to help you follow up things you’re interested in.

Technically Galicia and Asturias don’t constitute the one ‘culture’. They are actually two separate autonomous communities and historically defined regions in northern Spain.

However for our purposes as they are united in the revival of musics of Celtic origin, and share a certain amount musically in common in these terms, and, as they are geographically adjacent, for the convenience of the ‘Music of a culture’ topic I have grouped them together.

A few examples of commonalities: some of the tune types and names are similar (e.g. alborada; muiniera), as are some of the instruments, such as the gaita (bagpipe).
